This paper aims at providing some pointers for those involved in food
and agricultural policy-analysis training in order to generate a dialo
gue among them that may result in improved training programmes. The re
levance of currently offered training courses to economic policy refor
ms is discussed. The constraints and challenges faced by the organizer
s of training courses in redesigning training courses to meet the cons
tantly changing policy environment in developing countries are present
ed. It is argued that there is a need for rethinking methods of traini
ng in food and agricultural policy analysis to meet the changing needs
of policy decision making in developing countries. (C) 1997 Elsevier
