K. Specht et T. Platzek, TEXTILE DYES AND FINISHES - REMARKS TO TO XICOLOGICAL AND ANALYTICAL ASPECTS, Deutsche Lebensmittel-Rundschau, 91(11), 1995, pp. 352-359
With regard to the safety of production and use of textile clothings,
in addition to occupational and environmental aspects, consumers healt
h protection has to be considered. Regularly, only scarce information
is available about the migration of textile finishes and dyes from fab
rics. Therefore, the exposition of consumers can only be roughly estim
ated. Since 1992 the working group ''textiles'' oft, the German Federa
l Institute of Consumers Health Protection and Veterinary Medicine (Bg
VV) in Berlin is engaged to improve the toxicological evaluation of te
xtile clothings. In this context, some basic principles of consumers h
ealth protection with regard to textile clothings are discussed. In ad
dition, the toxicological literature is compiled, especially regarding
allergenicity of some textile finishes, auxiliaries and dyes. Specic
topics are formaldehyde, glyoxal, carrier substances, name retardants
as well as some possibly harmful azo dyes. Furthermore some analytical
methods for the determination of the respective substances have been
collected from the literature.
