M. Nockemann, INVESTIGATIONS OF TIP VORTICES WITH THE TRIPLE HOT-WIRE ANEMOMETRY, Zeitschrift fur Flugwissenschaften und Weltraumforschung, 19(6), 1995, pp. 380-386
With the triple hot-wire technique, an experimental investigation in t
he three-dimensional wake of a CLARK Y wing were carried out. The vort
ical flow field, generated by a plain rectangular wing with mounted ti
p caps, and the influence of three different shaped winglet configurat
ions on the near wake and the behaviour of the tip vortex roll-up has
been studied. The time-averaged profiles of the velocity components ha
ve been evaluated as well as double and triple products of the fluctua
tions. The center of the main vortices and the vorticities in plains n
ormal to the main flow direction are determined. The results may be us
ed as initial and boundary conditions for numerical investigation and
their validation.
