E. Landi et al., A STUDY ON THE DIFFERENT REACTIVITY OF HF-PREHEATED AND UNTREATED NICALON FIBERS WITH 6061-ALLOY, Materials chemistry and physics, 42(4), 1995, pp. 285-290
An original apparatus, that allows us to follow directly the evolution
of a ceramic-metal system from heating up to melting, was used to eva
luate the system tendency to wettability and reactivity. Systems compo
sed of Nicalon (NL 202) long fibers, untreated or pretreated with HF s
olution for different times, and AA 6061 alloy were tested. The result
s evidence the different diffusion of the elements, the deleterious ef
fect of HF treatment and the consequences of using a W wire inside the
system, as a heating resistance.
