Abstract
Micro-coiled SiC fibers have been prepared by chemical vapor depositio n using a powder mixture of SiO and coked rice husks that were very qu ickly heated to the reaction temperature. The growth conditions and mo rphology of the coiled SiC fibers were examined, and the growth mechan ism is discussed. The coiled SiC fibers grew exclusively among the amo rphous SiC fibers. The coiled SiC fibers obtained were triple coils, i n which three amorphous SiC fibers entwined each other to form one com bination coil having a 0.5-1 mu m coil diameter and a 10-100 mu m coil length.
