W. Hreczuch et J. Szymanowski, SYNTHESIS OF SURFACTANTS WITH NARROW-RANGE DISTRIBUTION OF THE POLYOXYETHYLENE CHAIN, Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 73(1), 1996, pp. 73-78
Ethoxylation of alcohols, alkylphenols, and alkylamines has been studi
ed in the presence of a few catalytic systems. Distribution constants
were computed. Broad-range distributed ethoxylates are formed in the p
resence of NaOH, and the distribution constants increase up to the hom
ologue containing six oxyethylene units. Narrow-range distributed etho
xy lates are formed in the presence of calcium-based catalysts. It is
reflected in the values of the distribution constants because an incre
ase with the growing number of oxyethylene units in successive homolog
ue is not observed.
