Jj. Bardsley et Sr. Rhodes, USING THE STEERS-RHODES (1984) FRAMEWORK TO IDENTIFY CORRELATES OF EMPLOYEE LATENESS, Journal of business and psychology, 10(3), 1996, pp. 351-365
Based on a sample of factory workers, this field study examined correl
ates of employee lateness. The framework provided by Steers and Rhodes
(1984) was used to identify variables related to voluntary and involu
ntary lateness. Both motivation and ability to be on time were found t
o be important determinants of lateness as well as joint moderators in
explaining lateness. The negative job satisfaction-lateness relations
hip suggested that a proportion of lateness behavior represented a res
ponse to an aversive work environment.
