We developed a method for preparing magnesium titanate via hydrolytic
decomposition of solutions of metal alkoxides in butyl alcohol, using
Ti(OBu)(4) and metallic magnesium as the starting reagents. It is show
n that the phase purity of MgTiO3 depends on hydrolysis conditions. Th
e alkoxide route yields a homogeneous, readily sinterable powder of ma
gnesium titanate with submicron-sized particles, which holds promise f
or use in electronics.
