A rapid and efficient clean-up method was developed for determining 16
organochlorine pesticides, 8 pyrethroid pesticides and 24 organophosp
horus pesticides in foodstuffs such as onion and garlic, which contain
high levels of matrix compounds. First, the sample was treated in a m
icrowave oven to inactivate enzymes which caused interfering peaks. Pe
sticides were extracted with acetone, re-extracted with dichloromethan
e and determined by ECD-GC and FPD-GC. Major interfering peaks were no
t found on ECD-GC and FPD-GC chromatograms. Recoveries of the pesticid
es were 49.8 similar to 132.5%.
