Ml. Forret et Db. Turban, IMPLICATIONS OF THE ELABORATION LIKELIHOOD MODEL FOR INTERVIEWER DECISION-PROCESSES, Journal of business and psychology, 10(4), 1996, pp. 415-428
One dimension of corporate social performance is concern for employee
relations. The selection interview represents one of the earliest poin
ts at which employers develop relationships with future employees. The
Elaboration Likelihood Model (Petty & Cacioppo, 1986) is useful for p
redicting when variables which are irrelevant for predicting performan
ce on the job can influence an interviewer's rating of an applicant. S
uch knowledge is helpful for organizations in terms of improving the v
alidity of their selection interview decisions and enhancing applicant
s' perceptions of fairness.
