Abstract
Previous research has found that employee commitment and job performan ce are largely unrelated. However, prior work has not distinguished am ong individual foci (targets) and bases (motives) of commitment. We fo und, as expected, that commitment to supervisors was positively relate d to performance and was more strongly associated with performance tha n was commitment to organizations. Further, internalization of supervi sors' and organizations' values was associated with performance but id entification with these fod was not.
