We present a detailed optical study of (110)-oriented CdTe/CdZnTe quan
tum wells, with well widths ranging from 190 to 660 Angstrom. Series o
f excited states have been observed in the reflectance and photolumine
scence excitation spectra of the heavy-hole exciton, and attributed to
the center-of-mass quantization. Data analysis shows that the heavy-h
ole mass along the [110] direction is m(h) = 0.9 +/- 0.1 m(0) (m(0) =
free electron mass), that is much larger than the value of 0.51 m(0) r
eported for the [001] direction.
