Cyclotron resonances of high-mobility electrons in inverted semiconduc
ting type HgTe quantum wells were investigated at liquid helium temper
atures by far-infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy. Due to the ener
gy dependence of the electron effective mass and the high electron mob
ilities in excess of 70 000 cm(2) V(-1)s(-1), the spin-splitting and t
he Landau-splitting of the cyclotron resonance could be resolved. At t
he conduction subband edge an effective mass m(0) approximate to 0.01
6 m(e) and a Lande g-factor \g(0)\ approximate to 20 was obtained. The
experiment is in good agreement with predictions based on the single-
particle approximation.
