Lh. Foster et S. Sumar, SELENIUM CONCENTRATIONS IN SOYA BASED MILKS AND INFANT FORMULAS AVAILABLE IN THE UNITED-KINGDOM, Food chemistry, 56(1), 1996, pp. 93-98
A simple hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometric method pre
viously described for bovine infant formulae has been successfuly appl
ied for the analysis of selenium in UK soya based milks and infant for
mulae. Levels reported for the first time ranged from 0.011 to 0.040 m
u g/g (wet wt) for soya milks and from 0.023 to 0.089 mu g/g (dry wt)
for soya isolate infant formulae. No matrix interferences were encount
ered and the mean recovery was 100.1%. These values exhibit variation
between batches, hence routine QC analysis and fortification by manufa
cturers is recommended. (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
