ZnSe1-xTex solid solutions doped with Cu and Cl have been synthesized
from ZnSe and ZnTe powders. The defect structure, solubility of dopant
s and photoluminescence at UV and X-ray excitation have been investiga
ted. At 300 K materials with x = 0-0.3 show intense donor-acceptor pai
r photoluminescence bands with peaks in the region of 1.89 to 1.57 eV.
The maximum photoluminescence intensity in ZnSe1-xTex:Cu:Cl solid sol
utions formed after a slow cooling thermal treatment has been achieved
near 0.06 at% Cu. Interstitial tellurium as a self-activated or donor
-acceptor pair photoluminescence band killer for zinc and cadmium tell
urides has been proposed.
