The authors investigated the construct validity of scores on the Behav
ior Rating Scale of the revised Bayley Scales of Infant Development (B
SID-II). They employed national standardization samples of children ra
nging in age from roughly 1 to 42 months, and a variety of factor anal
ytic methods. As might be expected, motor performance dominated the fa
ctor space, and structure became more complex at older ages as childre
n became more heterogeneous.
