Abstract
The technique proposed in this work to characterize three-phase equili bria in ternary systems allows the equilibrium temperature to be measu red with an accuracy comparable to the accuracy of vapor pressure stud ies and better than that of differential thermal analysis. As distinct from classical methods, this technique can be combined with various c hemical and physical measurements to determine the compositions of the melt and the solid phase involved in the three-phase equilibrium. The proposed technique was used to map out phase diagrams of the Pb-Sn-Se and PbSe-PbS systems.
