A method is presented for minimising the centre distance of a helical
gear set of prescribed power capacity using a fixed ratio of facewidth
to pcd and formulae contained within AGMA procedures. Although power
capacity is dependent upon many factors, the method has used module, n
umbers of teeth, and helix angle as the significant variables. The pro
cedure is based upon determining limiting values of AGMA geometry fact
ors I and J which are derived in order to establish upper and lower bo
undaries for the search interval of centre distance. Copyright (C) 199
