Abstract
A high strain zone in a deformed ice crystal is investigated with a 't wo-step' etching and replicating technique. A thin solid film was obta ined, representing a mould of the ice surface investigated. This mould , or replica, sampled a full 90 degrees lattice rotation, which is mon itored with the shape of sublimation pits. The replica also recorded t he development of dislocation etch pits on faces of the sublimation pi ts corresponding to the basal and prismatic lattice surfaces of the ma terial.
