Abstract
Gallium intercalation in tantalum diselenide was shown to induce a tra nsition to spinel structure. The magnetic properties of the synthesize d compounds were studied. Possible reasons for structural instability of the intercalated compound are discussed. It is suggested that the p hase transition is induced by destabilization of antibonding d-electro ns of host metal atoms.
