Abstract
The major prolamins of tef (Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter) and finger millet (Eleusine coracana L. Gaertn subsp. coracana) were purified an d characterised by SDS-PAGE, amino acid analysis and N-terminal amino acid sequencing. These studies indicate that the major prolamins of te f and finger millet are similar to the a-prolamins of the Panicoideae (maize, sorghum and Coix), although they are classified in a separate sub-family of the Poaceae, the Chloridoideae.
