Abstract
A new invariant, called the arranged sequence of total multiplicity di stance ranks of all the links (ASTMDRL), has been developed for a bina ry chain. This invariant is derived from the link-link multiplicity di stance matrix of a chain, defined in the present paper, in which multi plicities of all the joints of a chain are taken into consideration, w ith a view to enhance the discriminating ability of the new invariant. Based on this invariant, a computer aided method has been developed f or detecting isomorphism among planar binary chains. Copyright (C) 199 6 Elsevier Science Ltd
