Abstract
Learning outcomes currently play an increasingly important role in hig her education. This paper identifies a number of key issues that need to be taken into account in identifying and making use of them. It inc ludes a review of the background from which learning outcomes have eme rged. It also highlights the behaviourist approach underlying their us e in teaching and assessment and identifies key issues that need to be taken into account in adopting such an approach.
