This article reviews the initiation, improvement, and expansion of a t
eenage university program developed by Chinese educators. Over the pas
t 17 years, hundreds of young people have graduated from the program,
and most of them became the backbone of research and development activ
ity in the country. This article presents a brief historical review of
the program, methods employed in identification and selection of the
gifted, curriculum developed for this group of students, administratio
n of the program, and individual development of the students.
