A computer controlled system for partial automation of the fabrication
of upper-mouth orthodontic appliances has been developed. The task is
accomplished through the use of a vision system, a positioning platfo
rm and gantry, regulated acrylic deposition and UV light curing. This
paper presents a first attempt at conceptual design, operation and con
trol of an automated process in the fabrication of a class of orthodon
tic appliances.
