Abstract
A single-value total color difference (TCD) measurement for scene segm entation is proposed and evaluated experimentally. Both chrominance an d luminance difference criteria are considered. The luminance componen t is defined by a unit in luminance change expressed in terms of MacAd am's Just Noticeable Difference, JND. The chromaticity component is de rived directly from JND. Experiments using both pixel and region analy sis show that the proposed TCD can effectively indicate object boundar ies over a wide range of luminance changes. The results have been eval uated both subjectively and quantitatively. For comparison purposes, r esults have been obtained in several color spaces.
