Abstract
The electronic spectrum of impurity atoms localized in van der Waals g aps of cadmium iodide layered crystals is calculated by the MO LCAO me thod. The dependence of the energy of impurity states on the nature of the impurity atom, its environment, and the occupancy of voids is exa mined. The calculated data are consistent with the measured optical sp ectra of CdI2 crystals intercalated with Cd, Ag, Au, Cu, and Pb atoms.
