Abstract
The solidification behavior of Fe-V-C-M alloys was studied by differen tial thermal analysis. The composition of cubic vanadium carbides VCx was analysed by quantitative electron probe microanalysis. The additio n of a quaternary element (Mo, Al, Cu) induced changes in the crystall ization path, the morphology of the carbides (Al) and the composition of the vanadium carbides (Mo, Al). Moreover, the stoichiometry (x) of the carbides depends on the nature of the addition.
