Abstract
The use of the SOL expert system for designing copper wire rolling seq uences has provided support to the production planning tasks related t o the rolling process at the Magneto plant of Condumex. The operators' own methodologies for wire processing were included, and are being us ed by the expert system, as well as historical and statistical data of the rolling process. The SOL expert system currently performs the des ign of all of the rolling sequences at the Magneto plant. The effectiv eness achieved by the system is 95%, and its valid wire dimensions ran ge can be increased every time a new effective design is incorporated into its knowledge base.
