Drawing on related literature and an inductive pilot study, we propose
a conceptual framework for the relationship between job rotation and
selected career-related variables. A test on 255 employees showed rota
tion was predicted by career antecedents, such as tenure and performan
ce, and was related to career outcomes, such as salary and promotion,
positive affect, and perceptions of skill acquisition and other career
benefits. Rotation may he a proactive way to enhance the career devel
opment value of work assignments.
