Abstract
This paper describes a simple BASIC computer program which can easily be used to obtain the MTBF of a complex system through the numerical i ntegration of the system's reliability function R(t). The technique pr ovides results which are as close as desired to the exact solution, by allowing the user to vary the interval of integration and the criteri on for truncating the calculation. It can be applied to quite complex nonmaintainable systems, to complex systems with refurbishment, and to maintainable systems with relatively simple redundancies.
