Abstract
This article describes limitations of a Western, individualistic persp ective on psychological cheery and proposes a multicultural approach t o the study of personality. The first part of the article summarizes r ecent research and theory regarding how personality may be differentia lly shaped by individualistic and collectivist cultures. The second pa rt of the article describes strategies for teaching about the impact o f culture on personality.
