Abstract
A series of cationic cleavable surfactants was prepared by condensatio n of 2-alkyl-1,3-propanediols with 3-bromopropanal, followed by reacti on with triethylamine. Each surfactant is a mixture of two diastereome rs, and their precursors' stereochemical assignments were based on H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance spectra and melting points. The critical m icelle concentrations, Krafft points and destructibility of these surf actants were determined.
