This article examines the Consumer Price Index information presently a
vailable through the U.S. Department of Labor and the American Chamber
of Commerce Research Association. The use of the cost-of-living stand
ard in negotiations has suffered because of a lack of understanding of
the available information concerning the cost of living. The purpose
of this article is to provide some guidance in how to get the most ben
efit from the use of available information.
