The frequency of discussions about and the extensiveness of school ref
orm efforts across the United States suggest a pressing need for the i
nvolvement and support of individuals with expertise in planning probl
em solving, and organizational change. School reform has the potential
to benefit vast numbers of students. This article examines and discus
ses the principles and practices of organizational change as they rela
te to efforts to bring about meaningful school reform, with an overvie
w of a six-step model for collaborative planning and problem solving.
