Abstract
Naumann's one-dimensional (1D) thermal model of directional solidifica tion has been shown to give good agreement with experimental data on t he solidification of a complex metal alloy. The model's cold zone temp erature was used as a fitting parameter to account for decreased heat transfer in the cold zone presumably due to gap formation between the metal and the crucible.
