W. Hager et al., EVALUATION OF COGNITIVE TRAININGS VS RESE ARCH ON TRAININGS - 2 DIFFERENT WAYS OF APPROACHING ONE PROBLEM, Zeitschrift fur Padagogische Psychologie, 9(1), 1995, pp. 25-32
Klauer's defense of untrained control groups is rejected because of me
thodological and ethical reasons. Also rejected are his arguments agai
nst our classification scheme of different types of control groups rep
resenting different types of evaluations. It is stated, however, that
Klauer's arguments mostly are valid when considered from the perspecti
ve of traditional research on trainings, but can be criticized from th
e perspective of evaluation research. In addition, some aspects of Kla
uer's use of meta-analyses in the evaluation of the efficacy of traini
ng programs are criticized.
