Spain's Costa del Sol houses a fusion of north European immigrants and
local Spanish residents who have helped create business services whic
h cater exclusively for the modem package holiday-maker This article f
ocuses on levels of development amongst British expatriate service pro
viders (ESPs) in Torremolinos, La Carihuela, Benalmadena Costa and Fue
ngirola. Investigation shows different features affecting business pro
vision to a point where owners now perceive themselves to be performin
g satisfactorily. It is argued that these resorts are in transition an
d with continued improvements in offering customers a better product t
hen an overall survival of expatriate service provision is likely.
