G. Begum et S. Vijayaraghavan, CARBOHYDRATE-METABOLISM IN HEPATIC TISSUE OF FRESH-WATER CATFISH CLARIAS-BATRACHUS L DURING DIMETHOATE EXPOSURE, Food and chemical toxicology, 33(5), 1995, pp. 423-426
Clarias batrachus L., a freshwater catfish of commercial importance, w
as exposed to a sublethal concentration of dimethoate (Rogor). The acu
te effect of dimethoate on some aspects of carbohydrate metabolism of
hepatic tissue was studied after 1, 2, 4 and 8 days. The glycogen cont
ent was depleted, whereas the lactate level was elevated throughout th
e experimental period and an increase in lactate dehydrogenase was obs
erved. The activity levels of glycogen phosphorylase a and ab in the h
epatic tissue were increased during dimethoate stress. The results sug
gest that carbohydrate metabolism was adversely affected in the hepati
c tissue by the organophosphate insecticide dimethoate.
