A new polymorphic form of NdTaO4 with a monoclinic LaTaO4-type structu
re (a = 0.7572(2) nm, b = 0.5445(3) nm, c = 0.7675(4) nm, beta = 100.0
2(7)degrees; sp. gr. P2(1)/c, Z = 4; rho(x) = 8.29 g/cm(3), rho(meas)
= 8.20 g/cm(3)) was obtained at high pressures and temperatures (8 x 1
0(9) Pa, 1773 K). The reverse transformation from high-pressure NdTaO4
to the M-fergusonite phase occurs at ambient pressure at temperatures
above 1270 K and is close to a second-order transition.
