In an extension of research on organizational socialization, the relat
ionship between previous work experience and the tasks and outcomes of
the socialization process was examined using a longitudinal field des
ign. The importance of measuring socialization variables longitudinall
y, beginning at organizational entry, was highlighted. Implications fo
r future research are discussed.
