Abstract
A brief review of the current status of blue/green laser diodes is pre sented. Use of the Zn(Se,To) contact has enabled room temperature cont inuous wave (CW) operation at voltages in the 5 to 6 V range, although lifetime is limited by degradation associated with the formation of d ark line defects. The paper emphasizes doping issues, particularly the recent observation of a DX-center behavior (AX centers) for nitrogen in ZnMgSSe.
