Abstract
The incidence of liver fluke infestation in various food animals from 1987 to 1991 in the Asssiut province was recorded as follows: in cattl e 6.5, 5.8, 4.8, 4.17, 5.08 %; in buffalo 3.53, 2.74, 2.29, 3.8, 5.1 % ; in sheep 1.1, 1.4, 1.52, 0.36, 0.96, 1.72 %; in goates 0.14, 0.52, 0 .79, 0.78 %; these figures represent the years 1987 to 1991 respective ly. In general the overall prevalence of fasciola infestation amongst food animals was 1.55 %. Cattle were the worst infested, the lowest fi gures being recorded for goats. Fascioliasis was found to be most prev alent during the winter.
