Abstract
The Czochralski technique with a modified automatic diameter control s ystem has been used to grow single crystals of GdVO4 with zircon struc ture. It was found that selection of the growth atmosphere was importa nt to prevent crystal coloration. The lattice parameters are a = 7.218 Angstrom and c = 6.356 Angstrom. Two main kinds of inclusions were ob served in the GdVO4 crystals: dendrites and stringers.
