Abstract
In spite of its cosmopolitan origins, American sociology is widely reg arded as parochial in its outlook and concerns. In this paper I outlin e factors contributing to the intellectual isolationism of American so ciological research and pedagogy. Then I review recent social and inte llectual trends toward internationalization. Finally I offer concrete suggestions for sociologists interested in internationalizing their cu rricula.
