The method of stunning with a jet of water under high pressure was pre
sented in an earlier paper and the present article deals with the effe
cts of this type of stunning of carcases. Experiments on the killing l
ine showed that the degree of stunning achieved was sufficient to meet
legal requirements. The unpleasant movements make by the stunned anim
als can be suppressed with a weak flow of current. Investigations into
meat quality suggest that no negative effects are to be expected and
that fewer haemorrhages are likely in the meat.
