The absorption spectra of CdMnTe and PbMnI2 nanocrystals embedded in p
olymer matrices were investigated in the temperature range from 4.2 to
300 K. The absorption edge for CdMnTe and the excitonic structure for
PbMnI2 nanocrystals shift to shorter wavelengths as the average size
of semiconductor particles decreases. The results are analyzed in term
s of quantum confinement of excitons in the nanoparticles.
