This article describes four models of organization structure: the fami
liar hierarchical pyramid a pluralist system of groups in competition,
an egalitarian community, and a hyperplur-alist collation of individu
als. These structures arise in response fo conditions of environment a
nd technology; each has characteristic associated assumptions about hu
man nature and characteristic decision strategies. Each of the model t
ends fo generate an ethic that derives from its assumptions and suppor
ts ifs strategies. These ethical maxims are explored and the pathologi
es that commonly result are discussed.
