Abstract
4 first-person accounts are presented charting the routes that recipro cal teaching took from the college classroom to a variety of classroom adaptations. After a college professor chronicles her presentation of the reciprocal teaching strategy and other strategies in a graduate c ourse, 3 teachers describe how they taught the strategies in their cla ssrooms at grades 1, 4, and 7. Teachers discuss their experiences usin g reciprocal teaching and the other strategies as they learned by tria l and error and from each other how to make reciprocal teaching work i n their classrooms. These teachers learned to use strategies in combin ation to produce results that differed from those that the original pr oponents of the strategies envisioned.
