Sr. Kirby et al., AN INVESTIGATION OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE PROTEIN-CONTENT OF SAMPLES OF CORN, MEAT AND BONE MEAL, AND SOYBEAN-MEAL, Poultry science, 72(12), 1993, pp. 2294-2298
This study examines the critical assumption of a normal distribution f
or protein content in feedstuffs. Data were collected from broiler fee
d mills on the nutrient content of com, meat and bone meal, and soybea
n meal. Tests of normality for protein within each feedstuff were perf
ormed by each of two methods: 1) the Shapiro-Wilk test (n < 50) or Kol
mogorov-Smirnov test (n > 50); and 2) the D'Agostino-Pearson K2 test.
Results indicate that protein is non-normally distributed in com and i
n meat and bone meal, but protein is normally distributed in soybean m
eal.
